A Soft Sunday Morning at Home with Kait + Micah

A Sunday Morning with Kait and Micah

There’s something about slow Sunday mornings that just hit different. Soft light through the curtains, coffee brewing in the background, quiet laughter that doesn’t need much space. Nothing rushed. Nothing forced.

When I arrived at Kait and Micah’s Portland apartment, outside still felt half asleep. As soon as you step inside, things settle. Their place smelled like freshly ground coffee, and the morning light made it feel warmer than it actually was. We started talking about coffee and Formula 1 almost immediately, and before I realized it, my camera faded into the background.

That’s always my favorite part of home sessions. When it stops feeling like a photo shoot and starts feeling like real life. We moved easily through their space, from the kitchen to the living room and into the bedroom. No posing, no direction. Just the two of them as they are as if I wasn’t there. Whispering to each other, laughing on the couch, sitting close without thinking about it. The light coming through the windows was soft and steady, and everything felt calm and lived in.

As the morning went on, it became clear I wasn’t just documenting moments. I was paying attention to how it felt to be there. The quiet comfort of two people sharing space without needing to fill it. Love doesn’t have to be loud to be meaningful. Sometimes it looks like a shared cup of coffee, sitting on the floor together, or reading side by side while the morning passes.

Those are the moments that stick. Those are the ones I want to remember and give back.
